The Elk & Bison Prairie
A Drive Through Nature !
Consisting of over 700-acres, the Elk & Bison Prairie offers sights and sounds of this historic landscape. Accessible by car, a winding road leads visitors to three interpretive stops where interactive panels tell the story of centuries of change which transformed the native grassland into the hardwood forest so prevalent today.
At each stop, visitors are encouraged to look for evidence of wildlife: animal tracks, animal rubs, and paths worn through the grass.
Wildlife in the prairie is prevalent, and includes such animals as elk, bison, wild turkey, coyote, skunk, rabbit, racoon, bobcat, bat, box turtle, eastern kingsnake, quail, redtail hawk, and owl.
Because of their presence, PLEASE NOTE: Animals on the Prairie are wild and can be extremely dangerous. Please do not feed them, try to approach them, or coax them to approach you.
Other rules to be aware of during your drive through the Elk & Bison Prairie:
